How do they work?

Good acoustics in those places where communication is an important factor are determined by the sound absorption capacity of the materials used to build the premises. When this absorption is poor and insufficient, the so-called sound reflection appears.

This occurs when the sound waves produced by the emitter (music, words, etc.) continuously reflect among the walls of the premises, thus creating a diffuse sound field, which interferes with intelligibility and produces a poor acoustics level.

The most used method to solve this problem is to place or cover the walls and ceiling with materials, which can increase the absorption coefficient of the hall. This can be achieved with the so-called sound absorbing materials.

These materials are usually open cell and porous in order to allow the entrance of the sound waves, which partially or totally minimize the sound energy.
